Why exrsz exists (and why the mean setting is locked)
A short, honest note on what we're building, who it's for, and why we let you choose how much your coach is allowed to hurt your feelings.
exrsz is an AI coach that builds you a real, periodized training plan, then rewrites it every week based on what you actually did. Running, lifting, or both. One plan.
That's the product. Here's the reasoning.
The gap we kept running into
Running apps are good at running. Lifting apps are good at generating a workout for today. Neither is good at the thing a real coach does, which is look at your whole week, your goal, and how you've been recovering, and then decide what tomorrow should be.
The people who need that most are the ones doing more than one thing. The runner who also lifts. The lifter training for a Hyrox. The person who just wants to be strong and able to run a 10k without negotiating with their knees. They've been running two apps that don't talk to each other and hoping for the best.
What "real plan" means
Not a template with your name at the top. A program with phases: base, build, peak, taper. Volume and intensity set for your level, not someone else's. A deload before you're cooked. A plan that moves when you miss a Tuesday instead of silently falling apart.
It's the stuff a good coach does for a couple hundred dollars a month. We think it should cost about what a protein tub does.
The coach personality thing
You can pick your coach's tone. Chill, Motivating, or Mean. Some people want a hype man. Some want to be told the truth plainly. Some want to be told the truth rudely, at six in the morning, and they train better for it.
There's a fourth setting. It's called Ruthless. It's locked on the website because, honestly, we can't put a preview of it on a public page and keep a straight face in front of a lawyer. It's unlocked inside the app for anyone who wants it and understands what they're asking for.
We built it because a supportive ramp with one nuclear option at the top turned out to be funnier, and more useful, than three slightly-mean settings.
Where we are
Pre-launch. The site is up, the waitlist is open, the app is being finished. Founding members lock the launch price and get Ruthless on day one.
We'll write here about programming, recovery, and hybrid training, mostly. Occasionally about building this. Never with made-up statistics. If we cite something, we'll link it.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, the list is open.
Pre-launch
You read the whole thing. Now go train.
exrsz builds the plan this post describes and rewrites it every week as you train. Founding price locked, Ruthless on day one.
